Did you know we have a museum inside the firehouse? Come take a look!

The Monticello firehouse has a large collection of historic artifacts and information relating to the history of Monticello and our firefighting history. We welcome visitors to enjoy the displays and the antique fire engine.

Interesting Facts

  • Monticello (pronounced MON-tih-SEL-oh) is the county seat of Sullivan County.
  • Population of the Village of Monticello (as of 2010) was 6,726. Population of Sullivan County (as of 2010) was 77,547.
  • Sullivan County's southern border is only about 70 miles northwest of New York City.
  • Monticello was named after Thomas Jefferson's home in Virginia. Mr. Jefferson invented the word from two Latin words meaning "heavenly mountain."
  • In 1969, the famous Woodstock Music and Art Fair happened about 12 miles away in Bethel, NY. The Museum at Bethel Woods is located near the historic field and has become a destination for people from around the world who want to relive or learn more about that amazing event.
