Dedicated Firefighters

Become a volunteer firefighter and serve your community in an important way...

You can serve your community by becoming a volunteer firefighter! Many of your neighbors have already committed to volunteering and would welcome your participation. Our members are a close-knit group of men (and women!) who are dedicated to the safety and well-being of our community.

Then complete and mail or drop off your application to the Monticello Fire Department at 23 Richardson Avenue in Monticello. You will be contacted for an interview.

We also have a Junior Firefighter program called the Age-Restricted Firefighter Program. Young people who are 16 to 18 years old can join and learn about fire safety first-hand, and the responsibilities of becoming a firefighter. Only eight applicants are accepted each year.

  • Monticello (pronounced MON-tih-SEL-oh) is the county seat of Sullivan County.
  • Population of the Village of Monticello (as of 2010) was 6,726. Population of Sullivan County (as of 2010) was 77,547.
  • Sullivan County's southern border is only about 70 miles northwest of New York City.
  • Monticello was named after Thomas Jefferson's home in Virginia. Mr. Jefferson invented the word from two Latin words meaning "heavenly mountain."
  • In 1969, the famous Woodstock Music and Art Fair happened about 12 miles away in Bethel, NY. The Museum at Bethel Woods is located near the historic field and has become a destination for people from around the world who want to relive or learn more about that amazing event.
